Registering a business and copywriting the business name in Ontario, Canada?

I have my own small business and it cost me $70 to register it for 5 years, but I'm not sure that is enough? How do I trademark or copywrite the name and make sure everything is legit?

The business name registration won't protect your name. Your use of your business's name may establish a trademark under common law but registering it would make things much clearer. Have a look at the blog posts I've linked to below for more information.

You run a trademark search on your proposed business name to see if it will infringe on an existing trade mark in your classification/s. If there is nothing to dispute your business name you then go on to register the trademark with your countries intellectual property office.

This process can be done by yourself but I've never fully understood the process so always go for the quick and professional option of a legal representative who knows what they are doing, that way nothing is missed.
