school systems

I just wanted to beef about something.I guess you would say it is my pet peeve. The schools here are rediculus. They give kids 5 days to be absent for the year. They must have a home note for those days. They say they are allowed 10 days so i assume the other 5 has to be excused by a dr note. I try to go by that rule but if you have kids that have health problems it is impossible to do. One case of flu can wipe out that 5 days of home notes.Who can afford to go to the dr to get a dr note for a fever that could be some 24 hr bug.Stay in bed that day and you are good to go.Kids can't go to school here with diarrhea they aren't allowed to go to the bathroom that much. The problem is for every day a child misses school the school loses funds. Here in my county you would think that is the worst thing that can happen. All the schools are trying to do is gain those funds they aren't concerned about your child's health at all. My oldest daughter has health problem and missed 6 days unexcused and had to go to court and even though she graduated she had to pay the school board fines and fees for thoses days she missed! It is terrible here. Is it that way where you live? Thay are also trying to make it illegal to quit school at any age. So far the age has risen to 17 here next yr it will go to 18 Then they won't be allowed to quit at all.I think all kids should graduate and I have one left to graduate. But if they are reasons and they can get a GED I don't think they should take that right away.If your grades are a certain way they take away your right to drive. The schools here have been given to much rights. My kids had MRSA a few yrs ago. They were not allowed to stay home. One dr made my daughter miss 2 weeks of school for it but that was after it started to spread through the school becasue kids had it and were coming to school and spreading it. They don't care about our kids! No one can convince me they do.Its all about them and their pay checks!Does anyone share my feelings ?

Although it seems that way, all of the schools are not like that. They have to make the regulations to try to meet a lot of needs. They are also in place to help people stay in school and succeed in school. Kinda like the traffic laws, some of them seem really dumb but it's for those kooky people out there who do not know how to drive. It's kinda the same with these regulations. They have them in place to try to prevent idiots from keeping their kids home to watch cartoons and such. Don't take it personal..

Which country are you from? The school system there seems to be very strict if you say only 5 days leave allowed to kids. Here in India even office going public have as much as 22 days of earned leave available. Schools are lenient, but we do need to send in notes when kids miss the school next day. If it is a long leave, we also need to send in the Dr's note. But we do not have any such kind of limit on the number of days a kid is allowed to miss. I think that is a nonsense rule if any. In India, education reforms are now beginning and some sensible decisions are now being taken on how the system should pan out. The current system is highly stressful on children and pushes students into a mad rat race for marks. Hopefully after these reforms things would improve. Cheers! Ram
