Should i contact a social security lawyer for my boyfriend?

Postby caspar99 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 2:22 am

i have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for seven years now and throughout those years i have attempted to get his social security disability back, he can not read or write so i had to do his paper work and send it back only to keep getting denial letters for his claim. he can't work because in order to do that he has to fill out a job application and most businesses require employees to know how to read and write, should i contact a social security lawyer? thanks

no offence but why not just get him to learn to read and write - it's never too late.

You have been dating for 7 years and you never thought to teach him how to read?

If he is incapable of learning how to read than he needs professional help, and filling out his paperwork for him is secondary.

You've been dealing with this for seven YEARS and you're only now coming to the realization that an attorney might be a good idea? Apparently he's not the only one who's disabled...

Generally.....If your BF was already denied SSDI, he only has 60 days to appeal to the decision.

You will continue to get denial letters. No able to read and write does not justify social security disability. From what you're saying he once had social security disability, but lost it. Every so often they will check if someone is still eligible to receive disability and I don't think no able to read and write qualifies.

He needs to go to school and learn to read and write. He's gotten away with it this long but it sounds like the disability thing is over and done.

Since you've been with your bf for seven years can you teach him to read and write. I really don't think you should waste you money with a lawyer unless there is more going on. It usually takes at least three years to qualify/get on social security disability.

You can talk to a lawyer (1st visit free) and see what the lawyer has to say. Daughter hired a lawyer )(not the best in town) and the committee told the lawyer to keep his mouth shut because my daughter had all details she needed and did a better job than the lawyer. The believed every word she had to say. It took her the usual three years, but on that third year they granted her social security disability. You can either get a lawyer or you can do it your self. If he can't read or right you're going to have to do it for him. You can be his support system if this will work. You need to get more info from social security. That's the place to go.

Illiteracy is not a legal disability in itself. There are a lot of jobs that will hire without being able to read and write-landscaping, construction, janitorial services, roofing-just to name a few. Disability is for those who cannot work, not those who cannot read or write. And in seven years, you could have taught him or he could have used the time to contact someone who teaches adults. It's not too late-ever. He can learn, no matter his age and today is always the best day to start.

http://therightattorney.info/ has a searchable form by zip code where you can find a qualified attorney in your area.
