Since criminals don't obey gun laws - why have gun laws at all?

Why not just sell guns at the corner store? Decent American citizens don't need gun laws to be responsible gun owners, and criminals ignore gun laws. So what's the point?

Decent Americans are not always decent.
A guy gets picked on in a bar, gets mad walks across the street to the Acme corner gun store, buys a Glock, comes back and shoots up the bar.

I like gun laws because it restricts the ability the lesser people unlike me that have to live in the real world to defend themselves. Since I am a politician who has a personal police force to protect me I don't need guns, therefore any law that restricts guns must be good.
