Spouse Accessing Email And Phone Account

Postby Beornet » Tue Jun 10, 2014 2:25 am

My spouse has accessed my email, facebook and AT&T accounts to obtain what she mistakenly believes to be evidence of me cheating, which I am not. She has printed off detailed billing records of my cell phone account itemizing text messages, and email conversations of a female friend from Jr. High School, whom I have not seen in 25+ years, and who also lives in another state. We live in Florida. Is this illegal?...I had given ehr the passwords to the accounts in the past.

Spouse Accessing Email And Phone Account

Hi Ric,

The fact you gave her the passwords in the past is what they call implied consent and you have basically given her permission to access the accounts. Had you not done that, and she hacked in to the accounts, then it would have been illegal.

The state of Florida computer crime laws are under Chapter 815 of the Florida State Statues, in case you want to look them up.

Hope this helps, and good luck in your situation.
