Telling mum about first girlfriend?

Ok, I don't actually have a girlfriend, but I'm getting to know a girl who really seems to like me, and I wanna ask her out.

Anyway, I know that my mum isn't strict and would probably support me. But, she'll more than likely tease me for the rest of my life...

But that's not what I'm worried about... My mum has a tendency to talk about people behind their backs. She's always talking about friends and family to her sister and mentioning things she doesn't like about them. She'll say "did you hear what she/he said?" or "did you see what they were wearing" or even imitate them using a high pitched voice... I know she doesn't do it out of spite, but I don't want to bring a girl round a girl and have my mum talk about her in a negative way when she goes... It really annoys me when she talks about her mother in law or my cousins, so god knows what it'd be like for my girlfriend. Is there any way I can avoid this?
