hi sandra well i guess most people wouldn't expect that kind of response, they are sort of calling your bluff. so what would they do if you did give them that answer? hall you out of the seat? if they were a violent person, perhaps. Alice :)

hehe they may start an argument, perhaps? prod you and insult you? i've seen a lotof violent people, even women... if justice is to be served, then it would be cool. but most of the time, the bullies get away with everything... once, i was in a mall. i ate in a food court and i was alone. three women sat at the table near me. they started piling up their trays on my table! i asked why they did that. one of them suddenly said, "hey b!tch, you don't own the food court and you're alone so if the trays don't fit on our table, we have every right to put them on yours!"then the two others jumped on me as well. whew! the hairs on my back rose like crazy. all i did wa ask why they banged all their trays on my table. it was rather rude. if they politely asked permission, it wouldn't have been a problem. hehe. anyway, if i knew i could get away with fighting them and giving them what thy deserved, i would have. but i was too scared to get my a$$ kicked.:o

that s my seat!!!

I actually did have this problem where I arrived later than normal to church due to slow driver ahead of me. Some people were sitting where I was supposed to sit. I told them I had to sit there and why. They did not want to move. I asked the pastor what he wanted me to do and he went to them and explained they had to move and why. They were not happy about it but they did move. The were with friends and the friends knew that they were not supposed to sit in that area and did anyway. Because it was near the back and the guests did not want to sit up closer to the front but they had to move up anyway. Another time some people came and all sat down in the sound board person's area. It was not time for church yet and he had gone to the bathroom his families things had been on the seats next to him and they picked them up and moved them to the seats ahead of them. The guy got back and told them they could not sit there and he was in charge of the sound board and they would have to move. The guy a big man got all nasty and told the sound board man to take a hike that they were not moving. The sound board is where the person in charges makes sure all the mics and music and things are working right. The pastor came and asked them to move and they did not want to. Finally they did but they left the church. They could not understand that the sound board opertater and his family had to sit there to make things run smoothly for sound and music and effect.

hi there! that's a sticy situation indeed! but perhaps it's less complicated when the church is rather empty, and you take an entirely empty bench, yet a man wants to take your seat despite all the free seats around. that's true, some seats are for certain people, like the choir and those who read for the mass. i feel that there's no problem there at all. but when the "free-for-all" seats are involved, whew! i don't wanna be in that sticky situation! lol ^_^

I think when it's public, specially the church (where it's actually a very serene place, you shouldn't do that. I mean, you left. Someone took the seat because he/she wanted to hear better. Unless of course you left leaving some kind of mark or your seatmate have 'reserved' the spot for you. It's not like in the movie houses when anyone can just go out for a few minutes and come back (even that is a serious offense to those who are watching). It's public, so you don't have any rights to it. It's first come first served.

i like how you put it. that's right, they left! so unless someone or something was there to claim the seat for them, they can't seriously expect that the seat will be waiting for them while others are standing!

After posting on this yesterday I was shocked to see this story in the news. A thirteen year old shot and killed his 10 year old brother because they were fighting over a seat. Both the 13 year old and the father were put in jail, the father because of neglect. What the heck are we teaching our kids? Mine were fighting over the car seat this afternoon, I told them this story and explained that a seat is nothing at all worth fighting over.

really? this really happened? a child shot another child? i can't imagine it! what on earth were they taught at home? yes, it's good that you tried to advise your kids on competing for car seats. i also see other siblings fight over, say, toys. i think it is this possessive, competitive vibe from childhood that gets carried over into adulthood and messes up free public seating. hehe.

Yes this really did happen. A few weeks ago there was a 10 year old that shot and killed his stepmother. She was also pregnant. I just do not understand what these kids are thinking or what they are being taught. I do not even now how to shoot a gun. It is sad that kids think that violence is the answer to a problem.
