Very simple 4 expert in relationships between flatmates … heeelp!!!!!!!?

Postby emmanuil54 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 8:52 am

Hello

thank you for entering in my post

I share a 4 bedrooms flat with 4 other people so we are 5 of us

My flatmate made a weekly list in which he shared for 4 peple the cleaning tasks and he decided that I have to be the 1st of the list, so respecting what he has written I did all my tasks and I made a calendar where all of us we have to print our name at the end of our week and I added also his girlfriend on the list

this flatmate doesn't agree, he says that we are 4 bedrooms and 4 bedrooms clean the house

The same flatmate doesn't agree even in paying internet line which is on my name and the router modem is on my room

How many people should clean the house and pay for internet?

May you send to me a link of the british law regarding cleaning tasks and internet fees in shared house?

Maybe there are no laws about cleaning in a shared house. it should be expected that people accept some responsibility without needing to be legislated, and it doesn't all fall to one person. Am I right? Is there or not a law about cleaning tasks in shared house? perhaps related to landlord and tenant?

Any infortmaion about it will be very appreciated

thank you in advance for your help

Your question doesnt make much sense.

But basically...anyone living there should pay an equal share of all bills and do an equal share of cleaning.

There are no laws on who has to take the rubbish out...Its a civil matter.
You think you're grown ups? You can work it out yourselves.

This may be a situation where one person holds the lease and has sublet to others. If this is the case, then he can basically do as he pleases and make up the rules. If he has a girlfriend there who expects a free ride, then there is nothing you can do about it except find somewhere else.

If you are all signatories to the lease, then you can object to the presence of a fifth person who does not contribute. You are all equally responsible for keeping the property clean and in good condition.

Not knowing the position, it is not possible to offer further help.

two different issues
Simple one first
> internet line which is on my name and the router modem is on my room

SO that is 'your' internet,
legally you are responsible for it, and the contract to be paid
and any abuse of the line (illegal activity).
SO 'you' make the rules, if you choose to keep it to yourself - your choice.
If you 'choose' to share it, your choice..
.maybe in exchange and to the people who share the cost ?

The other things in the flat,
down to the name on the lease.
Who ever is named on the lease, is the legal person who is responsible for the rent and property. They make the rules.
1 person (like the internet) that person sets the rules.
4 people, they agree the rules,
5 people , they set the rules.

It is all about personal agreement,
You are in partnership - it is up to your to agree the partnership and rules.
No one else, you agreed to share the house, you agree how you want to share it.

If the landlord has set 4/5 different agreements...
That would be different, each person is a seperate responsibility.

So you need to look at the rental contract, and who is legally (and perhaps shared) responsibility, and that means if one person runs away or does nothing, the other people are still responsible,

So no law on it, only your financial contract and who signed it.
and then how you agree to live together.
If you are unhappy, negotiate leaving.
