Wage question.?

Postby taryn31 » Sat Apr 09, 2011 6:30 am

I work as a cashier at a local store chain, Save-A-Lot, and their policy is that you get paid on Friday, but after your shift ends. Now, isn't there a NY labor law that says you have to be paid within reasonable time to cash your check? My mother works for the state, but she hasn't been able to find anything on it, and neither have I. Banks aren't open till 11, and I normally work the 330-close shift, so wouldn't I have to get it before than? I almost didn't have gas to get to work since I had no money to get any. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no law regarding when your company must pay you other than that it must have a pay system, that pay system must address the pay dates, and the policy for obtaining the paycheck. If the companies policy says you don't get your check till after your workday....then by law they're allowed to do that.

Best advice.....plan your finances better. Know how your job paycheck and your bills operate, and plan accordingly.

No laws requiring pay at a certain time or day. Most banks now have Saturday hours so your story don't hold water. Learn to handle your money more carefully so you have gas in your vehicle.

No, you wouldn't have ot get it before then. The only laws out there are the ones that people already mentioned, and by saying it has to be within a reasonable time means if say you are unable to pick up your checks from work, your employer has 30 days to get it to you... its not the law to accomodate everyone's work time. If you have serious issue with it, talk with whoever is in charge of payroll and see if they can give it to you before your shift or something... sometimes your employer may allow it, but they're not required.
