Was this a flip flop by Obama or does Romney have a patent on political flip flops?

Postby denzell » Mon Apr 16, 2012 4:36 pm

I got into a discussion elsewhere. Everyone here calls me a biased Obama supporter. However I felt this was a good point made. Was it a flip flop? It appears to be.

In 1996, as a candidate for the State Senate in Illinois, Mr. Obama responded to a questionnaire from a gay newspaper. “I favor legalizing same-sex marriages,” Mr. Obama wrote, “and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages.”

As a presidential candidate, Mr. Obama’s position hardened. In 2008, he visited the Saddleback Church in Orange County, Calif., where the pastor Rick Warren asked him to define marriage. “I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,” Mr. Obama said. “For me, as a Christian, it is also a sacred union.”

Every politician changes their mind sometimes, but Obama just lies. No one has a monopoly on flip flopping.

He did what 95% of Politicians do when they want someones vote, tell them what they want to hear. And Yes, I would call that a major flip flop. It is just like Romney saying years ago that he was for stricter and harsher gun laws, and now that he is running for President he is a life long member of the NRA. Neither Obama or Romney have held a "political" view for more than a few months at a time and their voting records reflect that. Most politicians care about keeping their job, not doing it and both of these men are guilty of that. I am a Ron Paul supporter for several reasons, he has held a steadfast voting record that has not changed in 30 years, he wants to reinstate the constitution and he wants to reinstate our civil rights. There are many more reasons I choose to support Ron Paul, but I will not get into all of them here.

8 years ago, If you would have asked me If I would be married to a guy i've known since I was 9 and have 3 kids i'd have told you that you were out of your freaking mind....but today that is exactly what has happened.

People think one way and then change their minds, it happens to all of us.

If Obama has changed his mind that is his right to do so....

On the other hand, some people tend to give a brief version of their beliefs based on who it is that they are telling. I mean think of it this way, are you going to talk to grandma the same way you talk to your friends? Would you talk to a pastor or priest at your church about the same things you may discuss with your friends and in the same manor that you address that issue with your friends?
