What are the minimum requirements for bluring a trademark? (copyright law)?

I am working on a film project, i have a couple of logos on the movie, and i wanna blur them out. What are the minimum requirements for blurring out logos and trademarks??? Am i required to distort it completely, or some??? I heard that if you distort part of the logo, and not the entire thing that its sufficient. I also heard that if you blur it (pixelete it), and it can still be seen, but NOT clearly, then its sufficient as well. Is there anyone who can explain this to me, or is there any website out there which states the legal protocols on the minimum requirements??

Slow down.

Copyright and trademark are two totally different things. And, as such, the answer to your question differs.

I assume that you mean "trademark," as this is usually (but not always) what protects a logo.

You can find the official answer at www.uspto.gov.

If there really is a copyright involved, then www.copyright.gov would the place to go.

There are no legal requirements to blur any trademark that is incidental to your video. If you have any contractual requirements, such as your sponsors not wanting you to show their competitors brands, that would be spelled out in your contract.

If you have some other restrictive criteria that may apply to your particular film, those documents would be your best source of whatever "standard" they may reference.
