What are the rules/regulations for the dog pound in texas?

Postby weiford » Mon May 28, 2012 9:03 pm

I'm just curious cause i have a small rat terrior that is 10 years old, and i haven't seen her for a couple of days but didn't think much of it until one night i checked her bed at night and she wasn't in there or around the house for that matter, and i know they took her. She is always sun bathes in the driveway but is really shy. I know that if the dog catcher seen her, she most likely ran in the garage and they had to have gone in our garage to get her, so i was wondering what gives them the right to go in my yard, private property and get my dog. What guidelines does the officer (dog catcher) have in Texas, specifically fortbend if that matters any? I can't find anything online

You hadn't seen your dog for A COUPLE OF DAYS!!!! Are you joking? You didn't even notice her missing?

You don't know if your roaming dog was picked up by animal control or was hit by a car on the road.
You don't know that animal control came into your property, which would be very unlikely, to take your dog. They seize roaming dogs, not dogs who are on their owners property unless there is a very good reason.

She could be anywhere but you don't know because you didn't even notice her missing for 'a couple of days'? If she's lucky she may be alive and safe in the pound, which was more safety than you provided for her.

You want to know your rights? How about you learn about your responsibilities and obligations, part of which is to keep your dog safely confined to your own property. Pay the $500 fine for having a dog at large...if you want your dog back. You violated the law by allowing your dog to roam and you're banging on about YOUR rights.
