And also probably a personality "Hayden."Being unemployed I've lots of cost-free time on my hands. Any suggestions for character advancement? If I decide who this variety of person it'll be more simple to create a story about them.

What Can You Expect From The Personality Called "archer"?

Postby tearley4 » Sat Jan 04, 2014 3:18 pm

Archer when I hear the name... I believe of it being the kind of title an odd upperclass mother could give her trust-fund child. And so I notice Archer as somebody who spent my youth priveleged - lifted by intellectuals, maybe writers or individuals. However Archer defies tradition and genuinely desires to create a name for himself in their personal way. He?s intelligent, motivated, and not determined by mother and daddy to produce it these days. And he's no particular curiosity about really like. It?s also emotional.   I feel about a diminished-class man, When I notice Hayden. Not so effectively-educated. Employed in a gasoline station for minimum-wage. He possibly has objective but no way to satisfy it, or threw in the towel on his ambitions sometime ago. He'd like to start to see the world and steer clear of his life, but isn?t holding out significantly hope. Oh, and Hayden has completely been thwarted in really like. He?s quit only a small sour from this, and has difficulty trusting females(back-story together with his mother?).   Feasible Hayden and Archer fulfill, and are cast into extreme conditions that need them to check out the planet with each other hunting for something. What Would You Expect From A Character Named "archer"?

Postby Abboid » Tue Jan 21, 2014 2:41 pm

In the book The 3 A.M. Epiphany by Brain Kiteley there are exercises for working out all sorts of issues with your writing. I'd see if you can check it out from your local library. I find exercises in many of the sections useful to break me out of habits that don't serve the story at hand. There are sections on point of view, characters, gender, etc. It's full of great exercises to make you think about, and work on, all aspects of story development.   But to play along... :^>   When I think "Archer" I think of the Mahabharata and the archer Arjuna. I think strong, steady, accurate, focused, maybe to the point of being oblivious to everything but the task at hand.   When I think "Hayden" I think either a spoiled rich prep-school kid full of angst over things she's never experienced OR the real name of a stripper. I don't know why those things are my associations, but there they are.   But if I was reading a story you wrote and you painted a different picture, your picture would be my associations. You know? I didn't think I'd accept a guy named Jayne as a character, and then I saw Firefly. It works there.   Take care and good luck.

What Would You Expect From A Character Named "archer"?

Postby naw21 » Thu Feb 06, 2014 8:25 am

Thinking of my personal experience for this   Archer doesn't sound like a real name to me.  If it's going to be one, there should be some honest history as to how he got his name.  As an elementary school teacher(a profession that sees, and attaches stereotypes to, a lot of names), I've never met an "Archer."  The only one I can think of is the Star Trek captain, and a flat character from an RPG-type situation(he was an archer).  It does sound like a name for somebody who is action-oriented and has a strong personality.  I'd be surprised if Archer was dishonest or a bad guy.   There are lots of little Haydens running about these days.  I associate it with females, though it's actually more popular as a boy's name(boys named Hayden may need to respond to this trend).  The Haydens I have met have also had strong personalities, and the ones that are female have feminist parents(fitting the trend of making unisexual names).  The word that is closest to Hayden is hoyden, which might cause some subliminal connotations for people who don't know a Hayden personally.   I do like both names.  As an additional resource, try looking names up at the Social Security website:  http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/.  As a writer, I find I easily get hung up on names, and sometimes just browsing, or trying out a name at places like this site, helps me get a feel for the name and whether or not if fits my character.  Since I do have such a hard time with names, I usually have the character named Xxx for a looong time, so I understand the power of names.   There are tons of "exercises" for character development.  Try filling out a form or resume for your character.  Describe their physical appearance.  Give them a habit, such as a particular way of smoking or an item they hold in their hand.  Go to a busy place and people-watch until you find one that looks like an "Archer" or a "Hayden".  Read, and think about the characters in what you are reading.   Hope some of this helps! reader645 72 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. What Would You Expect From A Character Named "archer"?

As a writer, I always use "baby name" books(with explanations of what the names mean) to find appropriate names for characters having particular traits."Archer" is a famous detective in a series of Ross McDonald novels, and "Hayden" makes me think of Hayden Panitierre, a cute teenage television star.
