What degree to get for a future in law enforcement/ Coast guard reserve?

Postby bardoul » Wed Jul 25, 2012 5:40 pm

I am a recent high school grad and am trying to "line up all my duck", as some might say. I want to join the coast guard reserve enlisted and then go to get my bachelors degree. For a full time job I want to work for California highway patrol. Later I would like to apply for ocs to become a coast guard boarding officer(still reserves). I know this is alot to think about but what bachelors degree do I want? I have heard that criminal justice is to common of a degree to make myself competitive for ocs. I was thinking maybe psycology, business, engineering or prelaw? How difficult and time consuming are these degrees? Thanks for taking the time to read all this ha ha.

Your thinking is on the right track. I think some of the better degrees to get are Psychology, Sociology or Communications. For the military or police, it really doesn't matter all that much. Get your AA general transfer degree and then decide on what interests you the most. Go for that.
