Hope this is ok... this is not the Denver area but sense you are already in Loveland, has you been to Estes Park? It is a awesome drive up the Big Thompson Canyon, where you can see bighorn sheep,beautiful rivers. Estes Park itself is a fun town with cute little shop. One place to stop would be the Stanley Hotel, Stephen King wrote the book The Shinning after staying there. They gives tours of the place and you get to go into some of the tunnels that they claim are haunted. After checking out downtown Trail Ridge Road is a nice drive,there are tons of Elk that are fun to watch.     If you insist on going to Denver they has a outstanding Museum of Natural History that will take up most of the day.
