What does a U.S. Marine/Army Officer do in the military?

Do they fight along and lead the infantryman on the combat zone or do they just sit in an office or walk around the Company telling the soldiers what to do what are the differences pros con i want to be a US ARMY RANGER but also a lawyer i want to FIGHT defend my country of my life and also have a life of family providing my whole entire family the deeds to not work

Sergeants are the ones fighting with the soldiers and Marines, Lieutenants and sergeant major's are way behind coordinating the attack, examining the progress, and calling in support to the troops when needed. Major's and generals are safe in their air conditioned rooms, they're the ones who plan out the attack, the rest below them just execute it.

Officers do whatever their jobs are. If they are an infantry officer, yes they will be in the field with their men. If they are a lawyer. They will be in an office some time doing lawyer stuff. What purpose would it serve to take a desk jockey lawyer and make them a Ranger and put them in the field with a weapon? It's not gonna happen killer.
