What is an appropriate salary for my position?

Postby iker » Sun Apr 03, 2011 7:13 pm

I currently work for a Utilization Review Agency in Texas.

I manage all Form 32 and 22 submissions with the state (workers compensation: designated doctor examinations and required medical evaluations) as well as coordinate the transit of medical records, and appointment scheduling. On a monthly basis, I handle an average of 15-20 of these claims.

I also have administrative responsibility: fax/phones, filing, invoices, monthly and annual activity reports, client correspondence, sorting medical files, cleaning, and supply inventory.

I cannot find the appropriate "job title" for my position, the closest I have found is admin asst III.

I have an associates degree, and my company has less than 5 people total.

I currently earn less than 15K per year, averaging 32 hours per week. (this is my training wage: which I have been employed for 3 months now, without raise).

I am about to move up to full time, and am considering requesting a salary since my employer will not pay overtime. I have ammunition for requesting this raise: based on productivity, improvements through learning new software, major cuts in paper waste, and a long list of compliments from pleased clients.

Please help me to know what the appropriate range is. I am not even earning a livable wage yet, and think that I am going to request either 15.00 USD/hour or 32K/year. This company does not offer benefits or bonuses.

Salary.com may be helpful to you. Also, check out monster.com. Both will give you a broad idea of what the market wage is for your job.

Quick math tells me your training wage has been about $7.35/hr in a state where the minimum wage is $7.25/hr.

An Administrative Assistant with 3-5 years exp and an associates degree would market at around $16.75 - 17.25/hr. in the greater Dallas/Ft. Worth area in the current economy.

I think what you would be asking for would be fair. That is at least in the range of what they make, and also with the degree they should be paying you a little bit higher. I hope that this helps you.

Location, experience, and education are variables that you need to put into a website: salary.com. Hope this helps.
