What is NYS law reguarding ... We have 17 acres of posted land that says no hunting/no trespassing, however?

when we took a walk into the woods today we saw gutted deer parts laying just off the trail! several people have asked to hunt and I have said no , most say ok thanks, but one got angry and said his family has done it for generations etc... I dont know the guys name, I didnt see him do it I am assuming its him...what can or should i do? is it worth calling DEC about if I have no proof on who did it, just to let them know that SOMEONE illegally entered my property? I am so angry about this! I have pets and children and I am a vegetarian who believes in animal rights, I despise hunting and am so mad that I dont feel my family is safe on our own property! any suggesstions?

Well do you have fences up? You can call the police and say someone was trespassing, and they will take whatever report they are required to, but they won't really do anything without any evidence of WHO it was. You do realize though that deer overpopulate and hunting is needed. Without hunters the deer would starve because of overpopulation, then again so would you when they ate all the vegetables you eat. Yeah some hunters only go for trophies and that is wrong, but some hunt because they like deer meat. Just like FARMERS kill animals, including deer, to protect their vegetables.

First put up fences. It makes it harder to bring the game back over the fence. 17 acres is alot to do in a privacy fence but not so much with wire. Also consider putting an electric fence up. Another thing to do would be to put up wild game cameras. They can go off of infra red heat signatures or movements or timed shots. Just buy a game camera which can also catch some nice wildlife pictures for your family to enjoy and set them up and put locks on them. They cost $100 and up. You can catch your bad guy and catch wildlife. I used to hunt but due to career occupations I mostly just catch wildlife with a camera. I have built feeders and set the cameras around them and caught great shots of my livestock and wild life from squirrels, turkeys and deer to foxes raccoons and wild cats.
