What is so wrong about the Federal Government negotiating the maximum percentage of profit Health Insurance?

companies can have, while it is OK to tell patients the maximum amount they can recover from medical malpractice even if it does not cover the cost of care for their injuries.

So essentially, Republicans are saying it is OK to tell people that they cannot recover their losses in court from insurance companies, but it is bad to tell a medical insurance company how much profit is too obscene.

By the way State governments do this now which is why Republicans want to sell insurance across State lines. Insurance companies will all move to States with no cap.

Republicans seem to want to give all the power and money to the corporate world and the rich. The individual is rapidly losing their ability to fight back against the power of corporations. This is just one more step in that direction.

First off I believe that insurance companies should not be traded on the stock markets and should all be non profit organizations. There is something terribly wrong with an entire industry that can answer to it's stockholders before answering to it's customers. That said, it is not the place of government to say any amount of profits in any business is "too much" when you think about it, insurance companies run at about 6% profit, MICROSOFT far exceeds that percentage, as does Wal-mart and many other businesses. Letting government determine that one company "makes too much" is opening the door to letting them determine that for every company.

Obscene!?!? LMAO!! The profit margins of Aetna, Cigna and United Health average a little less than 5%...

Negotiate away genius!

The sad thing is that your obviously limited business knowledge probably surpasses the Democratic clowns you vote for...

Edit: Insurance companies will more to states with no cap? Yes. And customers will ALL want to buy insurance from companies incorporated in those states.

You really have to love the return our education system is getting for my tax dollars...

I am opposed to medical malpractice lawsuits (they add nothing to health care except cost) and I am opposed to government regulation of profit (which discourages new entrants in that sector of the economy).

none of those types of limits would have been set in the first place if people just acted ethically
