What is the family relationship between an individual's aunt/uncle-by-marriage and their family members?

Postby naseem » Wed Jul 11, 2012 1:53 pm

My aunt-by-marriage helped raise me and I was always close to her family when I was younga. I considered them my family. I was just wonderin what the common terms for these relationship are. For an example, would I call her parents my granparents-in-law? Would I call her nephews and nieces my cousins-in-law and their parents my uncles/aunts-in-law? Or maybe theres no actual terminology. Also, she had children with anotha man otha than my uncle who I consider my cousins too. So, is there an actual terminology for my relationship with them? All and all her family are basically my non-blood relatives.

Just consider them all family as though your aunt was your blood mother. No need for inlaws, unless you feel better calling them that.

She is still your aunt, by marriage. All of her extended family and relations (and I don't mean her children and husband) are HER family and relations, and no relation to you.

But if you are that comfortable with them, and consider them YOUR family and vice versa, I don't see any problem with referring to ALL OF THEM as COUSINS !!
