What Is The Real Reason Why Gop Republicans Want To Abolish Fema?

Former Republican Governor Jeb Bushz is set to lead a newly formed FOR-PROFIT natural disaster response company. According to the Maritime Executive, Bush?s newly created firm, Old Rhodes Holding LLC, joined forces with O?Brien?s Response Management, a subsidiary of SEACOR Holdings, to form a for-profit disaster response company.?We are pleased to enter into this partnership with one of the leading response organizations in the United States, backed by SEACOR?s global network,? Bush said.

I'm not sure if you've noticed or not, but the folks at FEMA are not always speedy, or efficient. If people want to hire others to do work for them, that should be their prerogative, shouldn't it? Not every company is fraudulent; there are currently many companies in the service area that have a good reputation and are privately owned. You seem to be implying that a privately-owned service is unethical, while the governmental ones are always the best alternative?? hmmm....Also--I don't believe that fire department was officially a "for-profit" department. What they were doing is what the majority of public service agencies have to do nowadays--set up a fee system for their services. I also believe that when the word got out what those fire fighters did(or didn't do) that all hell broke loose and changes were made for future situations. Something tells me that there were lawsuits over it, too.   Poppet! 28 months ago

They resent the government deciding who needs help and helping them.(as if they could do all that as private contractors and not steal our money)   dougiedognabit 28 months ago

"you are correct: fire companies were originally private businesses, who would respond to a burning house, and then negotiate price while the house burned. municipal fire departments were formed; because that sort of negotiations usually ended well for the fire company and badly for the "customer"   TheLightWorks 28 months ago

What Is The Real Reason Why Gop Republicans Want To Abolish Fema?

Shorten the sentence: "Because it costs too much and doesn't do anything." In a truly "Republican" context, the folks living in that area should be paying to rebuild that area(with their own efforts, with insurance monies, whatever) OR NOT LIVE WHERE SUCH DISASTERS ARE EXPECTED. I'd love to go live in Blythe, CA, on the Colorado River(water) but has an earthquake once in 500 years. Any hurricanes would have to figure out how to navigate the Sea of Cortez, so it's quite safe from such disasters. But building 30-foot high levees and then LIVING behind them? Sheesh.   danielpauldavis 28 months ago

Whether you like him or not, there is a very interesting chapter in Rick Perry's book "Fed Up" that goes into detail about how FEMA prevented Texas from doing more to aid the Katrina refugees. Living here in Texas, I heard many stories about what an inefficient bureaucracy FEMA was.   Snow_Leopard 28 months ago

Because this will be a for profit business - whereas FEMA helps out the poor and needy, who do not contribute to any Republican candidate.THe teapers think if you are poor, uninsured, or in need you should just get somewhere and die.   TurboB 28 months ago
