Hi FF, The chow is portrayed in statues that originated in China. They are the Foo Dog guardians that are found at the entries to doorway etc. There is one on each side. They keep evil spirits away. They have spread through Buddhism. There are many types. They are found in Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and down to Bali. They are also in Thailand and so on. I collect them from all sorts of places. I have mainly little ones around the house. I also have two down on our front lawn. This is a stamp from Hong Kong with the chow and statue. It is celebrating the year of the dog. These are outside the Forbidden City in Beijing. If I could knock them off I would!! They also have some beauties in Japan but I can not fit them into my hand luggage bag! I have two larger ones on my decking. They were heavy to lug up! The one on my decking with his girlfriend!! So there you are. I?m obsessed!
