What's a good double major match with Political Science?

Postby sampson » Mon Jun 25, 2012 4:31 am

I'm going off to college soon and I've been more open to the idea of double majoring. Other than Law School, I've been really interested in working for the State Department.
So if I were to apply for a job in the State Department, which other major (or minor) should I do along with Political Science...?

1) Anthropology
2) Sociology
3) History
4) a foreign language (Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, or French)

Unfortunately, my university doesn't offer an International Affairs/Relations major/minor.

Doesn't matter. To be competitive for the state department you'll need a masters degree anyway, so your undergrad degree really isn't important. I suppose the most marketable of all those would be a language major or minor, but even that isn't going to make a huge difference to law schools or on the job market.

I would recommend you seriously consider an economics major instead - this is one of the most marketable bachelors degrees out there next to an engineering degree, and it's great preparation for law school and/or a poli sci or IR grad program.
