What should I do with a traffic ticket in which I received a bail amount in CA?

Postby eddis » Fri Apr 13, 2012 2:46 pm

In February I was on my way to work and checking Facebook with my iPhone when a cop caught me. (Stupid of me, I know). He ended up giving me a ticket. Today (4/12), I received the letter from the county (this is Southern CA btw), and it shows a due date of 5/10 and a bail amount of $160. It says violation 231235A 29. On the sheet that you can detach it also shows two boxes, one for court trial and another for trial by declaration. I'm totally confused as to what I have to do.
1) Is the bail the same as fine? So if I pay the bail amount, it means I don't have to do anything else?
2) Or is this ticket making my court appearance on 5/10 mandatory?
3) What's trial by declaration?
4) I did get a ticket over a year ago when a cop caught me talking on the cell while driving. I paid over $300 I think at that time. Does this have to do with this second ticket I'm getting now?
5) Is this current ticket I have worth going to court and contesting?
6) Can I do traffic school for this?

Any feedback or experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

pay it means you plead guilty. case closed. the bail is the fine. appear and you may still pay in full, you may get a reduced fine, you are guilty so just pay. maybe you can ask for and get traffic school, you have to pay more for that and it's a suspended sentence over your head until you complete in full including payment, not worth it and since it's the second maybe not even an option.
