The Florida Department of Insurance The Florida Dept of Insurance has statutes relating to soliciting insurance over the telephone. You must be licensed to speak with consumers. The type of license is dependent on the type and extent of solicitation, so check the Dept. of Insurance if you need clarification of what type you need. Generally, a CSR type license is sufficient-your employer should be able to guide you. If you are not licensed-you face potential fines and/or jail time for solicitation without a license. The following website has a wealth of information on this topic: http://www.floir.com/ Also, you need to be cognizant of Federal telecommunication laws, especially the Do Not Call act. Again, your employer should be able to provide you with guidance in this area. Good Luck!
