Big firms nationwide pay about the same. Thank the internet and websites like greedyassociates.com for that.

Any big city will do really. For some strange reason, SF has a bigger legal market than LA. Plenty of big firms in each city tho.

It's more important to get into the best school that you can. Then worry about which area you want to practice in. Get into Harvard, and you can pretty much pick your location. Get into a so-so school....

The best paid lawyers in the country are in New York, New York. I know because my wife is a corporate attorney for a major downtown firm. She looked at firms all over the country and decided that the best paying jobs are here in NYC. Of course, the downside to that is the high cost of living in Manhattan. If you're looking for the best pay-to-cost ratio, check-out Minneapolis. I know, I know, no one really wants to live in Minneapolis, but it's actually a nice, cheap city and you can still earn a very competitive salary.
