Which origin for morality is more likely?

Postby victorio83 » Sat Dec 31, 2011 7:48 am

A: You realize that life is difficult and you can't survive alone for long so you decide to support your family, friends and even your community in their hard times so that they will support you in yours.

B: An invisible, all-powerful, alien force speaks through selected individuals passing on laws and morals to guide humanity toward some after-death reward.

Which origin for morality is more likely?

“Research shows that the reason humans struggle with emotion to find equitable solutions is pinpointed the region of the brain called the insular cortex, or insula, which is also the seat of emotional reactions.

The fact that the brain has such a robust response to unfairness shows that sensing unfairness is a basic evolved capacity.

The emotional response to unfairness pushes people from extreme inequity and drives them to be fair. This observation shows our basic impulse to be fair isn't a complicated thing that we learn.

Which origin for morality is more likely?

Let me get this straight. You're asking for a probability of psychological decisions made by generalizing the whole of humanity and attempting to calculate the chances of something happening that cannot be recorded, measured, or scientifically proven? It's impossible. Perhaps you should rephrase your question so it makes sense and get to the point of what information you are really after.
