Which would apply to me?

Postby christie42 » Sun Jul 15, 2012 4:01 pm

When I was seventeen, I was charged with Misdemeanor Larceny of Scrap Metal. In the state of North Carolina (where I live), they changed the Law right after I was charged. To where you can not get a defferred prosecution for scrap metal cases. My convinction wasn't until 6 months after this, so now I have Misdemeanor Larceny on my record. I'm 18 and trying to get a job as a CNA, and I'm trying to get into nursing school (they do a background check).

When i looked it up online it said that for me to get a expungement for Misdemeanor LArceny I would have to wait 15 years. But further down the page it said that someone under the age of 18 when convicted can get there record expunged after 2 years.

So I was wondering if I would Have to wait two years or 15?

most likely 2 or even sooner since you said the law was changed

BTW I dont think a misdemeanor disqualifies you from any job. I was in the military and use to be a cop and I had a misdemeanor. Now if its a misdemeanor for drugs or theft then you may catch some heat

You should be fine though, employers just look for felonies
