Specific laws against adults who are engaged between mutually beneficial contract such as prostitution or drug sales e.g. weed, that dont have the potential to harm anyone but possiblly the actors which is of their own doing are continually criminalized as if the state is required to play the part of nanny that conflicts with our own better judgements.

Why Are Laws Created That Seem To Be Counterintuitive To Human Nature?

Laws are designed to control humans. The intuition of humans is to not be controlled. Thus, ALL laws should be "counter-intuitive." Our "better judgments" are really horrible, which was why the smart men who designed our government put in layers of decision making to get around the abundance of doofus decision makers. danielpauldavis 50 months ago Please sign in to give a compliment. Why Are Laws Created That Seem To Be Counterintuitive To Human Nature?

legislate morality, when the only intelligent thing to do would be to make it legal, regulate it and tax it.  But, I guess government makes more by trying to regulate it than they would by making it legal - more people hired in the criminal justice system and prisons, and it then keeps track on more people.

Why Are Laws Created That Seem To Be Counterintuitive To Human Nature?

You want reason and rationality in human affairs? First you have to define it, then you have to debate it, and then win over the people that have a different idea of what rational means. Yippee, welcome to the club! It's a screwed up system, but to paraphrase Churchill, it's better than all the others.
