Why are we allowed to have guns?

Ok I understand that the second amendment gives us the right to bear arms but that was 225 years ago and it was referring to RIFLES that you had to change after each use! Like hunting guns not handguns that shoot 19 bullets in a row without changing. I'm sorry but my next door neighbor is a psycho who has been in trouble with the law and on tons of drugs and she has a freaking handgun collection. It legitimately freaks me out and she always threatens to use it. Like wtf? Why can't we allow just hunting guns and not handguns or at least not give some psycho mental girl the right to have a huge collection. I'm pissed

You do not understand the 2nd Amendment.

It is designed to arm the citizen militia (us) with arms suitable to actually fight for our freedoms. Some old muskets don't cut it. However an AK-47 would make an ideal militia weapon. Handguns are perfectly legitimate militia weapons too for close range defense.

Your next door neighbor, if they've been convicted of felonies or a drug user, has those guns illegally, just like the drugs they have.

And the technology doesn't matter. Is our Freedom of Press guaranteed in the 1st Amendment restricted to only newspapers? Are you advocating TV, Radio and Internet news should not be protected? Or that Freedom of Speech only refers to me actually speaking to other people in their presence as they had back then? Not the myriad forms of speech available today?

I own a vast collection myself, and love going to the range with them. They also keep me safe at home, and with one in the glove box in the car too. The 2nd amendment is the most important right I think in the bill of rights. Dont hate guns unless you own and have shot them yourselves. Its like judging people for their skin color.

See that "psycho mental girl" probably didn't legally obtain those firearms. So if we did outlaw guns, she would still have those guns and the law abiding citizens wouldn't. Thus making the law abiding citizens victims because they won't have anything to defend themselves with.

First off you are incorrect, the Second Amendment give no one any rights. The right to self protection is an inalienable, and the Second Amendment only protects that right. The firearm is the best tool ever invented to protect oneself with. That is why we have a constitutional protected right to keep and bear arms. If someone was about to murder your child or loved one, would you rather have a loaded pistol; or your shoe to keep them from getting murdered?

The Second Amendment says nothing about only being able to own rifles, it says, "the RIGHT of the PEOPLE to keep and bear ARMS shall not be infringed. Arms include rifle, pistols, swords and even spears.

Here is what our founding father says about the owning of arms:

And for those who are just to stupid to understand what was meant by those quotes, Thomas Jefferson knew that there would be idiots that couldn't understand the above, so he said it plain enough so even the most stupid could understand when he said. "No free man shall be debarred the use of arms."

If your neighbor is a psycho mental case, and has been in trouble with the law, she has no right to own firearms under the law, and probably does not have any firearms.
