I am fascinated byt this.....we have laws, we have a border patrol, we have ICE ...all saying...hey illegal immigration is wrong.....you will be deported etc.... but in reality , those laws are sledom enforced...and the fed govt clearly takes on states that actually want to really fight illegal immigration. So waht gives??? what the pretention??? why not just have federal lasww that say ...illegal immigration is just fine....come on over any illegals...you are welcome in the USA no one will bother you???

Because, then the other countries we talk to, and some of our own states, will think the U.S. Is weak, stupid, sad, or what ever else. The Feds are just trying to cover their asses with those signs and stuff.

I'm not sure how to respond to such a nuanced, intelligent question(?).

Federal law doesn't pretend to be anything. It was written exactly as it was meant to be. The fact that nobody is satisfied with the current situation doesn't mean that the original law was designed to be misleading.
