A lot of books have been written since communism was minimized in 1989 and especially since the 60's that claim the stories coming out of the USSR in the 20th century were exaggerations by the citizens who actually lived through it also claiming they didn't understand what the intent was. No doubt these books were written by left leaning intellectuals who didn't experience it. Word of mouth accounts of the starvation, the loss of freedom, the poverty are discounted even though mass graves proved otherwise.
You know that results to the left are not the issue. The issue is their intent regardless of the consequences of their ideology. Those who wanted to save their property, their businesses, their way of life were seen as greedy and political enemies for their failure to adhere to the collective ideology so were reeducated in prisons and/or killed. Those who were unable to work were given less food. So much less that they starved. They attract people with "the enemy of being is having". Much of the argument claims that people are slaves to their belongings. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Materialism is the enemy of the state. I don't understand how working and realizing nothing from that labor except the barest necessities appeals to anyone. One would have to be a robot, no thinking skills permitted.
I think young people think they can sit on their butts and do nothing and be provided with free cell phones and a cozy house with plenty to eat. They don't get it. This administration is sucking them in on a false premise.
