Why is American society so negative?

Postby teyo » Sun Apr 10, 2011 8:52 am

I'm 19 and have noticed many things that are just so disturbingly unpleasant about society in this country and i've lived here my whole life. i know that not all cultures are perfect and in many cases have it real good here, but i'm talking about little things that are just noticable.
people in this country are so greedy. it seems people will do almost anything to make a quick buck. what happend to moral obligations and to consider the consequinces or putting others before yourself?
believe it or not, most people are actually extremely rude in this country. they stare at you, pass massive judgement (especially those of the conservative party), and can never just keep their negative opinions to themselves. for instance. say a mom is nursing her baby on a bench or in a restaurant. people will b*tch to the manager to say something. what happened to minding your own business and just NOT LOOKING. just things like that. such a large majority of people here are just so narrsasistic and only think about themselves. have you ever seen, "What would you do?" things like that.
one thing i've noticed especially is this. adults and parents in America treat teens and college kids like little children. we have the highest drinking age in the WORLD. we have some of the strictest drug laws, cops seem to focus more on teens just being teens then focusing on real crime. this i've seen personally and experienced one on one. you may think, "well teens are stupid so we need to protect them." no, no, no. teens act the way they do because adults and people in American culture have grown to not allow them their civil rights in the first place. teens got sick of this by human nature and rebelled. if you notice, crime rate, and teen death rates are WAY lower in other countries that treat teens like adults and allow them their rights. in america, even 20 year olds are still treated like kids. it's just things like all of this i'm talking about. the negativity, the rudeness, the selfishness, the judgement and the fact nobody can seem to be voluntarily nice to each other. i'm so grateful when i meet someone who will lend me two dollars for gas, or give me my wallet if i dropped it to find all my money is still in it. i just wish people would get along more in this country and not be so insistent on thinking of themselves. i see in countries like canada and england, (while i'm sure there's people just like what i'm talking about there), everyone just seems a little bit happier and get along better. somebody i know went to london and visited more of europe and said everyone there is so polite. what is your opinion on these things? thanks.

Why is American society so negative?

*I agree and I've lived here in America my whole life too.

**My Fiance is from Mexico and i've met his family too. They are SO polite and respectful and actually CARE about family unlike MOST Americans do.
My fiance is so sweet with me that he even told me that if i don't WANT to, then i don't HAVE to work....but I said i DO want to work and help him.

***You're right on the Greedy part. I think it's because we have lived with it our whole lives that just some people get so used to it, they want more.
--- I respect people from other countries who come here to work and live a BETTER life ( Like in mexico, or central/south america...or africa/middle east/or asia ) , Because i know what they've been through. [ no money/food/clothes/ etc...my fiance went through it as a kid and he's so happy to have atleast a job now ]
I haven't actually experienced it, but it seems so hard.

But actually in some countries, when someone is still 20 ears old, then they sometimes live with their parents ( because they aren't married yet and that's part of their culture ) ...like India or Saudi Arabia for example [ i know some people from there ]
But yes, it's how the parents treat the teens and what they teach them.

This country was founded on opportunity and exploitation. Culture is low on our list of priorities.
