Postby tiernan » Sun Jan 12, 2014 8:10 am

my son plays the wii with the wi-fi connections at a friends residence. He wants to have it on his wii system but I don't know how to enable wi-fi. I was told it has to be connected to your computer but how do you do this?

And never you have to have 500 nintendo points to go on the web with the game, too? I have not done it however, but from seeking at the Wii Channels it sounds like you have to do that to get access?

Wii Game System. How Do I Make A Game My Son Plays Into A Wi-fi Connection?

Here are a few clarifications:1: The Nintendo Wii has a wireless connection. It is not dependent on the games. Some games utilize it, some do not, however there are major advantages to having the Wii on the network.2: Every Wii comes with a wireless connection. You don't need to buy anything else(hardware or points) to utilize it. If for some reason you'd prefer to take a trip back to the last century you can buy a LAN connector for the Wii and make it have a wired connection.3: You set it up through the Wii setup menu. I can't turn it on right now and tell you but I do know it's going to ask you for your wireless network's name. 4: After you connect you will probably spend a great deal of time downloading updates(It reminds me of the old AOL connection days). It will want to update your Wii software, then your Nintendo channel software, then some of the channel software for your various game channels if they've been installed.I love it - we play Mario Kart Wii with people all over the world. It's pretty awesome to see all these other Wii user show up with their names in their local languages. It even introduces everyone at the beginning of a series of races by showing their Mii standing on whatever country they have said they are from!Have fun!

MrItty replied to post #2: 4 No. Perhaps what you're thinking of is the cost of the "Internet Channel". That's an application you can buy for your Wii to let you browse the web on your Wii. It has 0 to do with playing games online. 57 months ago

If you have a wireless router in your home you can go to the tools section of the Wii and select wireless connection and connect to your network.   If you do not have a wireless router, you will need to purchase a Wii Lan Adapter:   http://www.amazon.com/Wii-LAN-Adapter-Nintendo/dp/B000MXDT80/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1238887399&sr=8-3   This device will let you connect an ethernet cable from your modem or standard router to the Wii, which will give you an instant connection to the internet!   If you have anymore questions regarding the Wii and connecting to the internet please view my source below for Nintendo's amazing guide to the wii and wifi!

First, not every game is eligible for the Wi-Fi connection. Make sure he's trying to play the same game at your house as he is at his friend's.Second, you need to connect your Wii to your home network. If you only have one computer connected to your network - wall to modem to computer, you're going to need to buy a router. I recommend a wireless router rather than one that does wired connections only. If you already have or decide to purchase a wired router, you're going to need an ethernet adaptor for the Wii. Head to nintendo.com to see which one they recommend. If you already have or decide to purchase a wireless router, your Wii can connect to it without any additional purchases. Go into the Wii Menu on the main screen, scroll over to Network Connection(or possibly Internet connection, I don't remember), and fill in the details for your wireless router.
