Will labor unions riot if we cut their pay?

Postby anglesey34 » Fri Jul 20, 2012 4:53 pm

8/13/10 USA Today: At a time when workers' pay and benefits have stagnated, federal employees' average compensation has grown to more than double what private sector workers earn, a USA TODAY analysis finds.
Federal workers have been awarded bigger average pay and benefit increases than private employees for nine years in a row. The compensation gap between federal and private workers has doubled in the past decade.
Federal civil servants earned average pay and benefits of $123,049 in 2009 while private workers made $61,051 in total compensation, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The data are the latest available.

7/18/12 yahoonews/APF: Spanish police fired rubber bullets and charged protestors in central Madrid early Friday at the end of a huge demonstration against economic crisis measures.
The protest was one of over 80 demonstrations called by unions across the county against civil servant pay cuts and tax hikes which drew tens of thousands of people, including police and firefighters wearing their helmets.
"Hands up, this is a robbery!" protesters bellowed as they marched through the streets of the Spanish capital.

Kind of like the OWS thugs, no?

The top dogs won't riot since they're making 6 figure salaries off the backs of the labor union workers....but you can always count on a bunch of dumb union workers to get riled up and riot for a cause because their shepherds told them to.

However, when you look at education and experience, public sector workers make a little LESS than private sector workers do.

Hi, your "source" is wrong. Federal Employee's haven't received a cost of living adjustment (a raise) since 2010, they have had a 2 year pay freeze. For pay you are comparing apples to oranges. You are comparing people with bachelors and masters degrees who are business majors and engineers to people who graduated from high school working at a manufacturing plant or a fast food restaurant.

Take engineers for instance:
Private sector pay average: 90K + benefits
Public sector pay average: 75K + benefits
This link provides you with an idea of what Federal employee's make:
http://www.opm.gov/oca/12tables/pdf/RUS.pdf
GS-11/12 are going to be engineers
GS-10/11 are going to be business majors and similar
GS-12/13 are going to be lower end managers
GS-13/14/15 are going to be upper level managers
Steps are based on time at your GS-level, it takes over 20 years to get to step 10 pay.
