Here's the situation- I just got pulled over on the highway for going 19 miles above the speed limit in a 65 mph zone (though in my defense, I thought it was a 70 mph zone, plus I was trying to keep myself at 80 but the road started going downhill and I forgot to reduce my speed).
I'm 18 right now, though my license is from when I was 16 and hasn't been renewed so I think it's still an intermediate license (you can get a regular license when you're 18 but I think it has to be 2 years after you got your first one, and it hasn't been 2 years for me yet).
Here's what I'm most worried about- I was driving my mom's car and the car's covered by my parents' insurance. The officer asked me who's car it was and I told him it was my mom's, and then he asked me for my mom's first name. At first I thought that maybe they call your parents or the owner of the car but my mom hasn't said anything about it to me so I don't think they do. But maybe the police or the insurance company send the owner of the car a letter?
Anyway, I have enough money to pay the fine myself, so I think I'd rather do that then have my parents pay for it or at least part of it and be punished. So tell me, legal experts- can I get out of this one without my parents ever knowing, or at least not knowing until they get their insurance bills?
