Workers compensation question (please help)!!!?

Postby werner72 » Sat Jun 02, 2012 7:31 pm

Hey, I'm 18 and work at a grocery store. Over the last year i have had a lot of back issues and my right hip is pretty much destroyed. I have been to an orthopedic and they said about not lifting much weight and other stuff like that. The only way i can cure the pain is by going to the chiropractors which only relieves pain for a short time being. I really just want this pain to be over with and then it gets worse. I called off work one time because i literally couldn't walk because of my back. She said ok we'll see you back in a few days then. She never said anything about a doctors excuse so i never got one and just came back a few days later and we went on from there and never said anything else about it. However, tonight like 2 months later i get called to the office and asked about me filing for workers compensation. I laughed and said i never filed and have no clue what they are talking about. The manager said ok i'll leave a note saying you have no clue about it. Does anyone know how this could come up? I'm almost thinking my orthopedics or doctors or someone called my work or sent letters saying i can't do certain stuff or i'll get workers comp. Idk how this was brought upon but if any of you guys could help me out i would highly appreciate it. I don't want to loose this job over something i never signed up for.

First, it's illegal for your employer to fire you because you claim worker's comp, so don't worry about that.

Second, you should claim worker's comp. Just call your state office

Workers compensation question (please help)!!!?

Workers comp just means your work will cover the payment for your injury. It's just like insurance. You probably wouldn't want to be responsible for the bills you received personally so your union, if you have one is set up to protect you if you gey injured. Workers compernsation is also mandated by law. Talk to your HR or your union about this. Orthopedic treatment can become pricey as you get older. Good luck.

If you are suffering back pain, they want to make sure that it was not an injury from work. If it IS an injury from work, and you fail to at least file the proper forms, you can be terminated, regardless of you not wanting WC.

They are merely covering their own asses.
