Okay so me and my cousin are up having this conversation and she doesn't know is she is right or wrong, in this situation. and i'm also confused on the answer to give her.

so here is the story,

she is 19 years old and her ex is 17, they started having sex when he was 16 and his parents consented to it. she says she didnt know his age at first, because he looks older than what he is and acts older at times. (i can testify to that). so recently they had a baby, and him or his family aren't doing what they need to do, they only bought the baby a box of diapers and wipes since she was born. the baby is now 3 months. she says that when she was prego she got a temp. restraining order against him, because he kept hitting her. she wants to know if she takes him to court, can they charge her for rape or something because of the age distance. she lives in new jersey. here are the laws, i dont understand them, we are both over here confused.

No they cant..in NJ to be convicted of sexual assault against a teen who his at least 16 years of age but under 18(which the guy is)..you need to be related to, guardian, or incharge of that person. Which your friend was not

I do not know about New Jeresy but by an attorney in Texas I know the law states that at the age of 17 you become an adult as long as not living in the house of your parents but at age 16 you can consent to having sex. I believe as well that 2 yrs its not illegal in Texas as well! Hope someone can answer your question!

I just went and looked it up real quick, and I think she'll be fine. The legal age of consent in New Jersey is 16, but I don't live there and I'm no lawyer or whatever, so make sure to look it up yourself to be certain.

its illegal for someone older the age of 18 to have sex or date (i think) so yea thats a thing
