Adults: Is It 'Normal' Anymore to Like Your Opposite Sex Sibling(s)?

Postby cinnard » Fri Jul 06, 2012 1:42 pm

Hi All.

I'm a married 35 y/o female. My brother is 37, also married with two kids.

It seems like all I hear about these days is dysfunctional families. I read about them in advice columns in the paper. I see them all the time on TV, and I'm not talking "Maury" or "Springer" either. I listen to some of my friends and co-workers and friends too.

And I wonder...

Am I normal because I happen to like my brother? And he feels the same way about me. Is it 'normal' anymore for opposite sex siblings to get along? Sure, the bro and I have had some scrapes over the years, but we've always gotten past them. Even as adults we especially like to go to concerts together occasionally. My sister-in-law likes this because I take him off her hands for a couple of hours. But I've also gotten a few strange looks from people too when I tell 'em that I'm going with the bro somewhere.

So girls, do you get along with your bro(s)? Guys, do you get along with your sister(s)?

Also, since I don't have a sister, how different are same sex sibling relationships from opposite sex relationships? Are same sex sibs more apt to get along than bro/sis?

i thought this question was going in a more disturbing, creepy direction. but thank goodness it isn't (at least i don't think it is).

and it's totally normal to like being around your siblings, male or female. different people have different types of relationships, and depending on how you guys were raised, sometimes you can't help having a strong bond with your siblings. it's nice. i'm an only child and i kind of WISH i had an older brother to be there for me and kinda sorta protect me.
