Postby seager » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:20 pm

basically i have foolishly been ripped off in a stripclub in hamburg, where i paid for dances and extra services on my credit card. However i was told i was paying €500 and then paid for a second €500. however i never actually checked the amounts they put into the credit card machine ! (foolish i know!)anyway ive now come back home and my credit card has been taken for £3250 !!! i cant believe i could be so stupid to fall for such a trick !
does anyone know if i could be covered under section 75 of the consumer credit act ?? or covered in any other way at all if not ? i hope to god i am
help !!

Reading what you have said personally I dont think it would be classed as fraud (so you would not be covered under section 75)

You put your card into the machine- the machine says how much you will be charged (I assume) - you dont check it but type in the PIN - You are charged the amount shown

Where have they defrauded you? - the fact that you did not check how much you were going to be charged is not their fault. Presumably if you had checked then you would not have typed the PIN

Big thing is - did you get a receipt at the time? - If so did you keep it? (I dont expect you did - I tend not to bother with receipts - but that is a BIG mistake)

Cos if that says the same as your ccard bill then there is no fraud at all.But if its different then thats DEFINITELY fraud.

It's still credit card fraud - query the transactions. Don't worry about it being a strip club or whatever- they won't say anything - happens all the time. Clubs and restaurants abroad are hotspots for cc fraud-they prob rely on embarrassment to get away with it. Report it but you'll have do it quickly.
