Are Any Popular (street) Drugs Taken Through The Wrist?

Postby beceere » Mon Jan 06, 2014 10:42 pm

I'm a writer, and 1 of my characters ought to have visible marks or indicators on his wrist of obtaining taken drugs intravenously. I just realized I never know what drug it would be, or what the marks would look like. I am a small out of touch with that entire subculture, which makes for difficulty when writing, haha. I tried searching it up and I see some speculation on legal drugs' effect if taken by means of the wrist, but I was thinking of some thing that would get him in difficulty if located out(except perhaps if he abused prescription drugs)... any help would be drastically appreciated!

you require to speak to a nurse...just about any drug that requires a vein could be used for the wrist.. a issue though.. is why? Why is yoru character shooting via the wrist..? Does the character have an iv set..(it is simpler to discover a vein in the wrist at times but is significantly a lot more uncomfortable). A geriatric nurse could give you much more details about problems locating veins..An additional difficulty with this characterization is that you are admittedly out of touch.. if you are - then you happen to be writing a character you do not recognize that is from a world that is alien to you. Can you offer a character study to get a much better really feel for what you happen to be hunting to achieve.. he could have accomplished wrist scarring(through iv use) by means of a mental institution. he could have frequently tried to free himself and in doing so not only injured the veins in his arms but also his wrists.. ..just a believed.

There is no way to know other than either asking that person or performing a drug test.  Having said that there are a lot of popular injected drugs:  methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine(and an assortment of variations of these drugs - sometimes mixed together).  These are just a few.  For a list of common drugs of abuse, see www.uatests.com/drug-testing-information/drugs-of-abuse.html

The wrist is usually used to draw arterial blood or to insert an arterial line. But the truth is drug users will attempt to access any site, when the veins of choice are shot due to repeated use. 63 months ago

Well, here you have a nurse. Drug users avoid the wrist because it is painful, and far too likely to be visible. The veins are too fragile there to be used very often, too. The scars I see on people's wrists are not from the drug use, but from suicide attempts or from the "cutters". You may need to revise your scenario.

what about one of those patches? A morphine patchI know - no visible marks but heck - when I wear a band aid, there is ALWAYS a residue mark around the sticky part.OK - a stretch, but I just wanted to watch the DB. ;-)Carry on
