Yes. The labor market has changed now. I do believe the state of Oregon is an "at will" state.The employer can fire for any violation as long as it does not violate a federal statute (Discrimination, Retaliation, Whistle Blowing, etc.). You can fight it with the employers HR department or the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) but that's a long process. I would just look for another job or fight if you have the time and resources.

if you belong to a union, then this type of situation should be covered under your contract

if you don't belong to a union, your employer is free to fire you just because they don't like the way you look

Exactly...no contract, at-will-state, equals yes they can.

What do you mean on call? If you were not on the schedule they should not be able to.
