Can I be taken to court for harassment/bullying?

Postby taillefer » Sat Nov 19, 2011 11:31 am

I recently found out 2 ex-friends had said some nasty comments about me on facebook. This was in response to me complaining about the noise coming from my next door neighbour (one of these people). These people are the Chairperson and Secretary of the Committee for my child's Pre-school. I made a complaint to the manager of the pre-school as I believed these people had breached their own Social Networking Policy. I also sent a private message to each person on facebook, they both replied, then I replied - we both said nasty things.
Since this initial communication I have spoken to 2 other people (gossipping apparently) about the situation, one of which may have reported back to her what I said. I had a reply from the manager of the preschool who said there was nothing she could do, I replied which included comments about the persons character and behaviour in an unrelated matter. I then emailed another member of the committee (making no personal comments only what had happened) asking her advice. I decided not to take the matter further and after a few days emailed my next door neighbour, to make peace as our children play together and it was affecting them, but I got an aggressive email in reply including "The relentless emails, contact and negative gossipping and character assassination has been taken too far", so I replied with a similarly aggressive email.
I then get an email from the original person I had the problem with saying, in short, that "if the emails, contact, defamation of character, gossipping and the involvement of third parties continue, I will have the right to take personal action against the harassment and defamation of character I am experiencing".
Has this person got a leg to stand on seeing as she made the initial nasty comments for lots of people in my village to read? She claims that there is no proof that it was about me, but one of the comments was "next door complaining again". I am her only next door neighbour!! If I reply to defend myself against some other false accusations made, can she take me to court??

Harrassment is just like every other law. Of course she can take you to court. She has the right just like you could have been nicer. Thousands kill themselves because of harrassment and bullying and they should be defennded in court.
