Can part-time workers get unemployment compensation?

Postby lathrop » Thu Oct 27, 2011 5:01 am

I worked at a company full time for 16 months, then changed to part-time (same company) because I started taking college courses. If I get laid off, am I eligible to collect unemployment since I'm only a part-time employee? P.S. I live in Indiana if that makes a difference.

No you are not eligible for unemployment. You changed from full time to part time to go to school. It was your choice - the company did not scale down your job. Unemployment does not consider going to school to be a valid reason. They will tell you to cut back your classes and go back to work full time. At least this is the way it is on the west coast.
Good luck with this.
