Career discrimination?

Postby valentino » Fri Dec 23, 2011 6:57 am

I have been a licensed Massage Therapist for many years. Our own associations say they are not able to lobby for us. We are no longer in the middle ages of massage parlors and "sex", we are medical massage therapists, and we know as much as Physical Therapists, Occupational, etc. We spend at least $400.00 per year on classes, travel, hotel fees, license requirement,, malpractice, and yet no insurance company will represent us so our clients have to pay out of pocket. This is discrimination, and it is seriously in need of changes. Every time we massage and/or aid in lymphatic drainage, the person may add another 20 years to their lives. Especially bed ridden people need our help. Which candidate is willing to go to bat for us concerning health care reform? Connie Pantano MA 49391

Where is the discrimination?

What do you mean "no insurance company will represent us so our clients have to pay out of pocket" (sic)? There are insurance companies that do cover massage as part of physicial therapy. It's also covered under FSA/HRSA accounts IF the physician prescribes it.

Every time you give a lymphatic draining massage, the person adds 20 years to his life? Come on now. If you want someone to "go to bat for you" you need to get your crap together, get a better argument, and stop saying garbage like each lymphatic draining massage adds 20 years to your life.

Yes, insurance companies need to be more progressive on what they cover (like dietary programs and preventative medicine), so why don't you go to your national organization http://www.ncbtmb.org/ and state clubs and get involved with lobbying insurance companies to provide better coverage and legislators to mandate better coverage?
