Are my career goals reasonable?

Postby kendell » Mon Jul 16, 2012 6:52 am

I'm going to medical school soon and afterwards I am going to become involved in that deal where you work in an area doctors are needed and then you get your loans paid for you. I then plan to work at a hospital that pays your malpractice insurance for you.

I plan to work full-time as a doctor for years until I have some money saved up. I then want to invest in real estate by fixing-up houses and renting to them to people who I have given full background checks and ensure that take out the proper insurance. I still will work as a doctor until I have enough to become a part-time doctor.

If I am able to only work three days a week as a doctor, I will use my free time to devote myself completely to my hobby as a writer. Even if nothing coming of it, I could always increase my hours as a doctor to get out of any rough patches.

Does this career plan sound reasonable? I really do want to be a doctor, but I also want to be a writer so I figured this would be the best way to become both.

I also plan to invest in a 401K every year.

Are my career goals reasonable?

You can always dream. Dreams keep us going, moving forward.
First things first, though. Have you been accepted to Medical School? It is very hard to get in, but, if you have, that is great.
Medical school will open up so many more doors and thoughts for you. For instance, what kind of doctor does your mom work for? Do you know what kind of doctor you want to be? That will determine how many days of the week you work.
Lots of times when we make plans, reality gets in there! Facts come through. You have to have a lot of money for medical school. After you finish, buying real estate means you have to have lots more money PLUS you will be paying back your loan for medical school which can be as much as 150,000 dollars. You will have to check out the payback opportunity.
If there are projects like that, which there are for teachers, then, that is great. You probably have to qualify or write letters about wanting it.
Your plan is reasonable, but, maybe not as easy as it sounds-with the easy work week and owning lots of property.
But, don't quit dreaming!

1. In the USA there are NO longer areas that pay your student loans.
2. Hospitals only contribute 50% of your premium, you pay the other 50%. That's why there are NO obgyns
3. You work more then 3 days.
You are dreaming
