Collecting Spousal Support?

Postby anglesey34 » Thu Mar 29, 2012 1:15 pm

So my parents got divorced (7 years ago) and my father was supposed to pay my mother Spousal support (starting in 2010 when my sister graduated college and he no longer had to pay her child support). My dad has not been paying and my mom is taking him to court. My mother (not an honest person in the least bit) told my sister and I that we have to sign a form waiving our need to go to court. She claimed that this was due to the "family law" that states that all dependents and children under 21 have to appear in court about the parents spousal support. We live in Oregon and I have found no information on this law and I also don't understand why I would ever have to appear in court when it's an issue between my parents and I have no knowledge of their financial agreement. My gut is telling me that she is trying to get me to sign another document...what are you thoughts? Any knowledge about this situation? Advice would be good :) I'm 19 by the way.

Rat your mom out to your Dad's lawyer.

She doesn't deserve anymore money.

I can't say specifically on Oregon or this matter but READ THIS DOCUMENT WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS! Don't take her word for it if she is not an honest person. If your gut is telling you something, LISTEN. If it doesn't make a difference if you go to court or not...Go, just for your own sense of peace. You could also call an attorney or check online for websites that will offer free advise. Best of luck.

If they have been divorced for 7 years.....she wouldn't be entitled to spousal support...I would try and take a look at the divorce settlement.

The divorce has nothing to do with you or your sister and you should not have to sign anything.. DONT sign anything DONT get involved...

Your mother needs to get a job and support herself.....its not her ex husbands responsibility to continue supporting her 7 years on!!
