Compare the Prohibition Era to the illegal drug trade today?

Postby plys » Mon Mar 05, 2012 11:31 pm

Compare the Prohibition Era to the illegal drug trade today. In your estimation, was the government effective in dealing with the sell and consumption of alcohol during Prohibition? Why or why not? Is government effective in dealing with the illegal drug trade today? Again, why or why not? What kind of laws or actions would you implement to keep people from abusing drugs or alcohol? Or, do you think it’s a personal choice?

I am kind of sheltered so i need help. thanks!

Compare the Prohibition Era to the illegal drug trade today?

Eliot Ness just made the hoods millionaires by driving up demand for illegal booze and when the 18th Amendment was repealed the mafia just went into drugs, prostitution, gambling (Las Vegas) and taking over unions.

The Bible thumpers who coerced the politicians into passing the 18th used their organization and the pols fear of their organization and money to pass the bills. The majority did not want the 18th but they were not organized and did scare the pols. It is like the NRA being able to keep today pols form even thinking about gun limitations even after Columbine murders, Va Tech massacre, and now Chardon High school deaths, Ohio. The political candidates are scared to have the NRA using its money and organization against them, so the pols will not even hint that gun control is needed.

So the Bible thumbers spread the word taht everyone who uses ot becomes a unless bum and a crook and will be addicted to herions or LSD; But people know their frineds use drugs and not all become addicted so they doubt the hardline positon and see not difference between alchol and pot. they see the war on pot as an expensive waste of money. Now that most do not think pot is a carmie the don ot support he harsh laws that keep kids out of college and other hars punishments.
