Do I have to be a bounty hunter to help police catch out of state criminal?

Postby elton » Fri Nov 18, 2011 4:06 am

I had a deal with a person I didn't know very well (music deal) and I had him on contract. After flying him out to California from Chicago and helping him get on his feet, he ripped me off (long story). After spending lots of time researching his name in Google, I found out he has an open warrant out of Ohio for drug trafficking. I know he's in Arizona now and he ripped me off so badly that I will spend time and money to see him suffer. What can I do to help police get this guy? It's just a low level warrant for trafficking hydrocodone, is there anything I can do? I assume I can't apprehend him myself, or it would be kidnapping. But he is pretty much untouchable by law enforcement because he's outside of the state where the warrant was issued, or is there anything I can do if I find out his location, to see him arrested?

You need to call the agency in Ohio where the man has the warrant. Tell them where he is, address and such and ask will they extradite from there. IF they wont then there is nothing you can do. If it is a felony warrant and they will extradite you can go to where he is and alert police, but you cant apprehend him yourself. Your best bet would be to follow him without him seeing you and contact police when he can be apprehended.

actually you can make a citizens arrest and it is not claimed as kidnapping then if you hand him over to the authorites if he was under contract you can have the warrant raised. even in a different state if you arrest him that state will then transport him to the warrant state for punishment so be sure to inform them that he broke a legal agreement which can either mean $200,000 + or a 5 year jail sentence + the drugs sentence

To be a bounty hunter, you would need to have a bond on him. If you didn't bail him out or are hired to apprehend him for a bail bond " thus the name Bounty" you have nothing to do with Bounty Hunting. Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic opioid derived from either of two naturally occurring opiates - codeine and thebaine. Hydrocodone is an orally active narcotic analgesic (pain reliever) and antitussive (cough suppressant).
You can't be a Bounty Hunter to help police catch out of state criminals. You also cannot open your own law enforcement agency, with out a license. Basically you can only go after him as a vigilante. Whether you arrest him and turn him in, still a vigilante is the only title you can hold in such matters. I suppose you could pay a private detective to find him and then you could turn him in to authorities.
There is no such entity as a citizen arrest law enforcer. You would not have any of the rights or protections to go around arresting people as a citizen. What you actually thinking about is a title such as Batman, Superman etc. You are only looking for trouble. I mean if the even find him, anything short of 3 meals and a TV in his cell, would only be in humane anyway, so why worry.
