Do Immigrants get deported if they break the law?

Postby treasigh » Wed Aug 01, 2012 4:16 pm

I'm writing a story and one of the main characters is an Immigrant, he legally went from Mexico to the USA. One idea is that he somehow gets caught with having drugs or does something else to break the law. He's only been in the country for 2 years. Would he get deported or just go to prison? Does it depend on the time of living in the country and the type of crime?

No, Americans would pay their tax dollars for the time they spend in an American jail. Who knows, judges get away with doing what ever they want to poor people, so maybe a judge would deport him without have a good lawyer.

Do Immigrants get deported if they break the law?

Ok since hes been in the country for 2 years he does now have the right to obtain an attorney so that way he can get some help if he/she goes to court and just because he came illegally that doesnt mean he has to get deported so it kinda does depend more on the type of crime but normally you just go to jail the only way you could get deported is by getting caught by immigration

Obama will not allow any deporting no matter what the reason. Serial rapists, murders, child molesters of other countries here is your new home in the Obamanation of what once was a great country. If obozo illegally gets in office again the country will not last his term, maybe not the world. A Radical muslin with the "football" and a jet...

Please ignore any comments by ignorant individuals.
Yes. If anyone in the country who is not a US citizen, and breaks the law could be deported.
Notice how I said "is not a US Citizen". This means, even if you are a permeant resident (green card holder) and you break the law. You can be deported. The reason why I say can is because it depends on the crime. For example, if you get arrested for driving while your license is suspended, you will not be deported, but if you were driving drunk and killed someone, yes. You will most likely be charged with murder.

As for undocumented immigrants, they are usually deported if caught committing any crime, small or large. Some are just simply approached on the street and deported. This part however depends on the state you live in. Recently, Obama has stopped the deportation of immigrants who fall under the bill called the dream act.

I hope you I answered your question. If you are interested in learning more about The Dream Act, please support my film called The DREAM Act.

anyone who isn't a citizen is subject to deportation for if they are convicted of a felony law. but that wouldn't happen until after they served their sentence. ICE comes to pick them up at the jail, so they can't run and they can't hide. plus, a felony convictionfor drugs would be a permanent ineligibility for any future visa with no possibility of a waiver. he could never re-enter the US legally.
